WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED

ADMIT THAT YOU ARE A SINNER.

As Creator and Ruler of the whole universe, God deserves all of our love and obedience.

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for Thou hast created all things.
(Revelation 4:11)

Sadly, instead of loving and obeying God, each of us has turned to his or her own wrong, sinful way.

All we like sheep have gone astray. We have turned every one to his own way.
(Isaiah 53:6)

For some, that wrong sinful way is to ignore God. For others, it is to pursue personal pleasure and ease. For still others, it is to proudly think that they can earn God’s approval by sincerely trying to do what they deem is right. But the Bible says that even at our very best, we are all sinners before a holy God.

For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
(Ecclesiastes 7:20)

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
(Romans 3:23)

Instead of leading us to a better life, our sinful choices lead to physical and spiritual death.

For the wages of sin is death.
(Romans 6:23)

UNDERSTAND THAT GOD HAS ALREADY PROVIDED A WAY FOR YOUR SALVATION.

There is still hope! God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross and endure the judgment that we deserve for our sins.

But God commendeth [demonstrates, shows] His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
(Romans 5:8)

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(John 3:16)

BE WILLING TO TURN FROM YOUR SINS.

Jesus Christ rose again after three days. God now commands all men everywhere to repent and turn from their sins to God. Those who continue to reject Him still face certain judgment and death.

But [God] now commandeth all men everywhere to repent: because he hath appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world by [Jesus Christ] whom He hath ordained.
(Acts 17:30-31)

Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
(Luke 13:3)

ADMIT THAT YOU CANNOT SAVE YOURSELF.

Repentance is not a process of personal reformation. All such attempts will ultimately fail because we are by nature sinful. But God, in His mercy, can and will save us on the basis of the sinless life and sacrificial death of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us.
(Titus 3:5)

For by grace [God’s favor to us, though undeserved] are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.
(Ephesians 2:8-9)

PLACE YOUR TRUST IN JESUS CHRIST AND ACCEPT THE FORGIVENESS AND ETERNAL LIFE HE OFFERS.

God promises that if you will turn from your wrong, sinful way and believe that Jesus Christ died to forgive you, you will be saved. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
(Romans 10:13)

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
(John 1:12)

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.
(Acts 16:31)

Whosoever believeth in Him shall receive remission [forgiveness] of sins.
(Acts 10:43)

He that believeth on me [Jesus Christ] hath everlasting life.
(John 6:47)
